Teacup and cake stand.

Last weekend gave me a few hours to get a bit crafty and I thought I'd share the results. I've actually made teacup candles before but I left them in the car on a hot day and it was a disaster! I found a cute little teacup at a garage sale yesterday and decided to make another candle. I had some wax, wick and one wick holder leftover from my last time candle making so I could only make one candle (I live an hours drive from a craft store). I also removed the old wick from a little coloured tea candle I never use and added it to the wax pile to give the candle a little bit of colour. Candles are very easy to make but my friend, Samara, has done a fantastic tutorial that gives all the right tips here so there's really no point rewriting good tips. The only thing I do different is  I tie the wick to a skewer above the cup (instead of pegs) and I melt my wax in a can pegged to the side of a saucepan (mainly as I don't have any large jars but also cans take ages to warm up so I can touch it with my hands the whole time while I'm melting the wax).
materials needed (although I ended up needing 2 more cubes of wax to fill it to the top).
I bought some great yellow ramekins from a garage sale the other day and hidden in the same box was a pretty plate that I thought would make a nice little cupcake stand. This project was super easy. I had a black candlestick in the shed so I cut out a MDF circle and glued the candlestick to the MDF. Then I glued on the plate and voila, a freebie (since I already had all the materials) cupcake stand.

  1. Ooh, I have seen the cake stands done with candle holders- I am hoping to give one a go at some point :) Sooooo much cheaper than shop bought cake stands :)

  2. Those are such pretty cake stands - love them! I definitely need something better than a plate.
